Quail Fried Rice is Jill Carroll's first novel. It is a romance novel written in a literary style outside the usual "romance" formula. The story follows Tori Reed and Elena Rios--talented, smart and beautiful women--as they transition their lives away from big cities to the pace and culture of a small town in West Texas. Readers join their journey as they create new lives for themselves in the midst of grief, loss, significant change, and the pressures of societal expectation. The result is an artful narrative of discovery set within the sparse beauty of the desert landscape.

A Dialogue of Civilizations: Gulen's Islamic Ideals and Humanistic Discourse is a book that examines the ideas of Turkish preacher and scholar Fethullah Gulen in the context of ideas from the larger history of Western thought in the humanist tradition. The book came as a result of Dr. Carroll's travels to Turkey during which she saw firsthand the work of what some scholars identify as one of the largest, most successful Islamic service movements in the world. In this book, Dr. Carroll put's Gulen's ideas into a textual conversation with prominent philosophers Plato, Confucius, Kant, J.S. Mill and Sartre on issues of philosophical and contemporary relevance. While "heady" in its subject matter, A Dialogue of Civilizations is written for a more general reader who has no background in philosophy, Islam or in the work of Gulen.

The Savage Side: Reclaiming Violent Models of God is Dr. Carroll's most significant scholarly book. In this book, she uses the nature writing of Annie Dillard and the phenomenological categories of Emmanuel Levinas to offer a critique of dominant feminist models of God. The book is based on her doctoral dissertation in religious studies at Rice University. Dr. Carroll won the Charlotte W. Newcombe Dissertation grant from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation in support of her research and writing of this book.
Like most scholarly books, The Savage Side is written for academics, particularly those trained in philosophy, religion and/or theology. It is not written for the general reader.
